Our History

The Shiloh Englewood Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) was the vision of Pastor Owen D. Pelt.  We were officially established and licensed in the Illinois in 1963.  We are a cooperative association organized to address the systemic effects of discriminatory institutions and racism that limited and often prohibited access to financial wealth for the African American community.

Our Mission

For almost 60 years the Shiloh Englewood Federal Credit Union (SEFCU) has provided help to members who have been shut-out of mainstream banking. Our Credit Union’s mission is to provide our shareholders with a safe place to save, build wealth and an affordable place to borrow.  We are the grassroots for providing financial services in the underserved and marginalized Englewood community.

Our dedication and commitment to providing financial services to our church members and to the Englewood Community is not new . . . it is why we exist.

At SHILOH ENGLEWOOD FEDERAL CREDIT UNION (SEFCU), we are dedicated to serving our community with integrity, compassion , and a commitment to faith-based values.  Our mission is to empower our Target Market (African-American individuals and families), through financial literacy, responsible products and services, investments, and community development initiatives.  We believe in making a positive impact by promoting financial well-being, supporting economic growth, and fostering a culture of “people helping people”.

We were created to do this work and we are proud of it!
